Barrio Logan is known for its high gang crimes and partnerships with the Mexican cartels. This is the community I grew up in and many people wonder how I made it this far. My leadership skills in my community have provided me with many opportunities to improve myself and others. My mentor and I created a support group called “Circulo de Hombres” in my community to teach teenagers in the community about professionalism and future career paths. I brought a professional software engineer from Qualcomm and together we taught the students how to program a very popular game at the time called flappy birds. My first internship at Qualcomm Incorporation was composed of workshops with Arduino, debugging the firefox OS, fixing the wiki for Qualcomm, and creating a python script that will email the developers if their software wasn't up to date. I took the lead on explaining to my team on how to clean the wiki database in order to work efficiently. Delta Sigma Pi is a professional co-ed business fraternity where I have continued to improve my strengths. I was the president of my pledge class and guided a group of ten to complete four events in eight weeks. I’m currently the Vice President of Professional events and our biggest accomplishment so far is that we brought Tesla to our university this semester. Tesla is huge when it comes to mechatronics and robots. I have been the president and currently the treasurer of the American Institute of Mechatronic Engineers. For our community service event, we participated in Imagineer Day which is a day where engineers from the University teach kids from kindergarten to sixth grade what engineering is. Although I would be considered an outlier in my community I have accomplished everything I put my mind and effort to.
